I have had this beautiful 18' Joe Bark SUP race board in my shop since the race a couple of weeks ago. It belongs to Jim Terrell from QuickBlade paddles. Yes, it is for sale. No, I don't race.......any more. I did a SUP race last year on the Colorado river and discovered that I should stick to SUP surfing. I got my butt kicked and had no fun in the process. I spent 25 years racing bikes and later managing bike racing teams. No more racing for the kid of any sort.....no way!! But damn this thing looks bad ass! Long and sleek and it really looks like fun. It is a work of art. I just might have to take it out for a spin.
We are getting some of the new Surftech Joe Bark 14' Expedition SUP boards at BlueLine and that will be a killer board. My friends and I have plans to do a Channel crossing and on a later trip paddle around Point Conception and on to Santa Barbara. The Expedition will be the board of choice for sure for these trips. OUT.
Word on the street!! There is a new elite SUP racer in town doing some secret training. Look out for this dude. He drinks Coors like it's going out of style. This ain't no downstream racer!! I think his secret is mixing Budweiser in with the Coors. It turns into rocket fuel!! OK, the secret is OUT.

Blane Chambers, the man behind Paddle Surf Hawaii having some fun in the warm Hawaiian waters. I was over in Oahu last week and had the pleasure of meeting Blane and his crew at his PSH store. These guys are doing it right. I have been involved in SUP for many years now and I have never seen this kind of loyal following. If your into hard core SUP surfing check these guys out. Just check out their website and look who is surfing their boards. Nuff said. We at BlueLine are super stoked to be the number one PSH dealer in the country. The world premiere of the new surf film The Women And The Waves will show Tuesday January 27th and Friday January 30th at the 24th Santa Barbara International Film Festival Victoria Hall. The film was made by local surfers and film makers Heather Hudson and Peck Euwer. Looks like a really fun movie with lots of good music and super cool people. The film was shot in Mexico, California and Hawaii. www.thewomenandthewaves.com. I have meet Heather a few times and she seems like a really great person. Go check out the movie. Im off to Hawaii for a few days. Maybe I will return with some good pics to post. OUT

You have seen the little Aflac duck on TV right? Aflaaaaaaac!!!. Another obnoxious TV ad with a sound you can't get out of your head. Aflaaaaaaaaaac!!! Well, after 45 years, a dozen operations, brain contusions, a broken back, enough stitches to make even Frankenstein jealous, numerous trips to the ER and a few stays in ICU I finally discovered accident insurance. Aflaaaaaaaaac!!! I never really knew what that stupid little duck was representing. I thought the TV ad was for auto insurance or something. Turns out Aflac is accident insurance. They shower you with cash whenever you get hurt. How come it took me so long to figure this out? How come I didn't sign up years ago? Damn! I could have had a duffel bag full of cash under my bed by now. Hell, the sales women who signed me up even gave me the little duck so when I squeeze it it goes "Aflaaaaaaaaac!!!!" If you get hurt like I do you might want to check this out. The way I see it is this, if you don't get hurt you aren't trying hard enough. You aren't pushing the limits. You aren't going big. You spend way too much time behind the desk. Getting hurt is part of the deal. It sucks but it comes with the territory. I am finally recouping from my latest injury and have been out doing some flat water paddling the past 3 days. It feels so good to be back out on the ocean. OUT.

Ben Harper's new band Relentless 7 sounds REAL good. I listened to a few of the new songs and Ben is going back to his hard rock stuff. No one throws down like Ben. Seeing him perform live is like watching Jimi Hendrix and Marvin Gaye combined. His live performances are like a wild roller coaster ride. Go see these guys live and you will be a believer!!! OUT.
Get a grip!! My friend Mike Cook, aka "Captain Cook" is all about the handle so he grabbed my Lopez 9'6" SUP board and put one of his killer handles on it. I have never really cared about handles on SUP boards. Now I have to admit that the handle is nice. If it's there I will no doubt use the little bugger. If you are ready for a handle on your handleless SUP board Mike can set you up. Call BlueLine for more info. OUT.

If you haven't noticed, the Clyde Beatty glass shop is gone. Before that it was the original Santa Barbara Surf shop owned by local shaper Reynolds "Renny" Yater. It really is a shame to see it go. Yes, it was a mad house at times. I worked in that glass shop for a year about 10 years ago during it's heyday. Lots of boards coming and going. I met a lot of cool people down there and some not so cool people but for the most part it was a very entertaining experience to say the least. Working in that shop is where I met Wayne Rich. Wayne is one of the best shapers in the world and one of the most honest hard working guys you will ever meet. If the shit ever hit the fan Wayne is who you want standing next to you.......respect. I had a great time working side by side with Pancho, Clydes right hand man. I don't think Pancho ever set foot in the ocean but he was one hell of a surfboard glasser. His dad Alvaro did all the glossing. Alvaro is a good man. They could do it all and now that Clyde's gone off to China Pancho is now working down in Ventura at Glass Monkey Glass shop owned by John Birges. I had my ups and downs with John but in the end he is a solid guy and also one hell of a glasser and shaper. It amazed me how quickly he learned how to shape and glass. Please call John and Poncho at 805 644 SURF for all your surfboard glassing needs. They do great work. Clyde is gone and these guys will fill the gap. John glassed all my BlueLine SUP boards after Spencer Kellog across the driveway at iShapes buzzed them out on his killer shaping machine. Spencer is another great guy that I have known for almost 20 years. Spencer has been shaping beautiful surfboards for 25 years. He also did time at Clyde's glass shop. You can reach Spencer and i Shapes at 805 644-1317. Another guy I worked with at the shop was a dude they called "The Butcher". Everyone at the shop had a nick name and this was my favorite. The butcher was a mean dude but damn he could sand a board in record time. You had to have thick skin to work in that shop and the butcher tested my patience everyday. He stopped sanding boards many years ago and I still see him around town fishing and reading down at the book store. Like I said, the butcher was a little grouchy at times but he taught me a lot about sanding surfboards fast!!. If you weren't fast you didn't make money. Anyhow, thats my small tribute to the Clyde Beatty glass shop in Santa Barbara. Crazy times. OUT.
