Guayaquil Ecuador

A few photos I snapped while in Guayaquil Ecuador. Guayaquil is the commercial hub of Ecuador. We spent our last night there before heading home from our Galapagos trip. Unfortunately our last night there was freaking crazy! More on that subject later. OUT.

PADDLE SURF HAWAII 12' GUN AND MORE

We unloaded another container of PSH boards this morning and bingo, the much anticipated 12' guns were onboard. These bad boys look mean and lean. To see this board and all others stop by BlueLine Paddlesurf in Santa Barbara. OUT.

GALAPAGOS.....IN THE BAG

It's done! We all survived the SUP surf trip of a lifetime. All 7 of us agreed that this trip was the most physically demanding surf trip we have ever done.....for sure. I got hurt the second day of the trip after trying to go right on a left hand outer reef break. I landed on my rail and cracked a rib then hit the lava rock and got a nice bloody wound to hang with me the rest of the trip. Little did I know that this was just a sign of things to come. Later that day Peter Trow and I got some of the best left hand point break waves we ever surfed. I was so stoked because I never surf left and now I LOVE to go left. Bad news is I woke up the next day and could barley get out of bed due to the cracked rib. No problem because I busted out my camera and shot the rest of the trip. I did get back in the water to surf but only in little spurts.I couldn't find pain killers on those little islands damn it!! So much happened on this trip and I will write the whole story for the Stand Up Journal. Lots of killer photos from Allen Mozo and myself will be of course added.

We experienced it all. Big waves, killer whales(Orca), penguins, giant Galapagos tortoises, blue footed boobies, marine Iguanas, flamingos and so much more. We had a near death boat accident when we got caught inside by a clean out set. We even had three of our group get kidnapped at gun point in a taxi in Ecuador the last night before flying back to the USA. Crazy fun beautiful trip. A friend told me a long time ago that punk rock is beautiful music if you really listen to the words and feel the sound. I guess our trip was that kind of beautiful. Punk rock beautiful. OUT.

GALAPAGOS UPDATE

So far we have seen it all. Plenty waves every day. Always overhead and much bigger. Today is BIG and tomorrow is supposed to be even bigger. Photo is Curtis setting up for a Galapagos bomber!! We are on our third and final island today. I of course held true to form and hit the rocks on an outside reef and broke a rib and got some nasty road rash 3 days ago. So many crazy stories to tell and photos to share when I return next week. The Galapagos are full of world class waves. It's crazy!! The island we are on today has tropical penguins everywhere. Ill try and do another post before I return. OUT.

ROLL OVER DARWIN.........

........cuz the Paddle Surf Hawaii SUP surf team is on the way. We will be converging on the Archipielgo De Colon, other wise know as the Galapagos Islands. The beautiful islands lie 600+ miles off the South American country of Ecuador and get hammered by big south swells. Will we get it good.....who knows but guaranteed we will have a blast and come home with thousands of killer photos from one of the most magical places on earth. North Shore surf photographer Allen Mozo will be shooting the whole trip and wildlife photographer Morgan Hoesterey will be filming it as well. No doubt we will have great memories to share and many stories to pass on. The crew will be from the mainland, west coast and the north shore of Oahu. Pro kiter/big wave charger Peter Trow and I will be the representing haoles from California and the north shore crew will consist of PSH strong man Austin Yonehiro, Japanese long board champ Kekoa Uemura who rips on a SUP board and Curtis"DaKine" Miyashiro. 7 total.

The adventure begins right here in the good old USA. I have been so busy I just finally looked at our itinerary and it looks crazy! Peter Trow and I will have to leave Santa Barbara tonight (Wednesday) and met up with the Hawaiian crew at LAX. Our flight to Panama doesn't leave LAX until 2:30 in the freaking morning! 10 hours later we arrive in Panama for a lay over until our next flight to Ecuador. We spend the night in Ecuador and then jump on a smaller plane for the 600 mile flight out to the Galapagos Islands where the adventure really begins. Needles to say we will be worked like a farm animal at this point. We have a boat to haul us around the 13 islands once we arrive to look for surf. I'll be gone for 13 days and I'll try my best to do blog posts from my laptop. Yup, it seems that we will have internet access at some spots. Check my blog for updates and killer pics. This of course will be well documented and seen on TV and mags in the future. Of course we will ALL be surfing Paddle Surf Hawaii SUP boards....the most insane high performance surf boards on the market.....period. OUT

RON HOUSE, RICK THOMAS......RESPECT.

Ron House and Rick Thomas, two local SUP legends. Rick Thomas introduced SUP to the US mainland and Ron House was the first guy to really start cranking out killer custom SUP boards in San Clemente many years ago. Ron and Rick are good friends of mine and it is always an honor to surf with them and talk story.............respect.
