CHARLIE DON'T SUP SURF !!!
OK Charlie, Bob, Joe, Jim, Billybob or whatever your name might be, it's time for my every 6 months spew on the do's and don'ts of standup paddle surfing at the local SB surf breaks. Why do I care? Because I have been surfing off and on my whole life, my dad surfs and my dad's dad surfed. So that makes me a third generation surfer who knows the rules and has respect for the rules while in the water. My grandfather pounded it into my dad's head and my dad schooled me on the rules when he taught me to surf at the age of 10 down in San Clemente. Now that the Standup Paddle craze has hit the waters a whole new breed of surfers have arrived. Most not really coming from a surfing background therefore not knowing about the surf lineup and the angry dudes that lurk in the waters ready to rip the head off the next kook on a 12' SUP board that cuts him off. I have been involved in SUP for many years now and the issues with the boards seem to come and go. The SUP craze is still growing and more and more people are getting on the water and paddling. Just like any issue the key to making everyone happy is education. I spend many hours a day talking about paddle surfing with people that are good at it and people that want to get into it that have never surfed. Now that we have our SUP store in town and it is quickly becoming the go to shop for expert advice on SUP, I am spreading the word and educating everyone I can about surfing and not pissing people off in the water. I won't let anyone walk out the door with a SUP board that has never done it without a speech on staying out of the surf until you learn how to handle the big board. Then there are the good guys that hog all the waves. Well, all I can say about these guys is that they need to be dealt with on an individual bases. Most likely these guys were wave hogs when they prone surfed or they just have that kind of personality where they don't think of others. I encourage every SUP surfer in the water to police each other and if you see a guy or gal on a SUP board being a wave hog or even worse putting others in danger due to his or her lack of skill and surf knowledge, please call this person on it. This will help us all in the long run. Now go grab your board and have some fun!!! Respect......................

NEW SUP RIPPER IN TOWN
Just when us old farts think we have it down along comes the kids. Well, maybe not a real kid but at my age anyone under 25 is a kid. Robert aka "RP" from Hawaii came walking into the store a few weeks ago talking the SUP talk and now he is walking the walk. The kid rips on the SUP board and has raised the standard for us old dudes this winter. No matter what SUP board I put him on he rips it like it was a freaking short board. We are so impressed with him that he now has a home at the shop and will be a great addition to the blue crew. Good things are happening at the store. We are stoking people out with new boards and paddles every day. Come by and check us out.

SAMANTHA BROWN AND THE TRAVEL CHANNEL COME TO SANTA BARBARA TO LEARN ABOUT STANDUP PADDLE BOARDING
I got a call a few weeks ago from a guy in New York City claiming he was from the Travel Channel and he was sending out a film crew to do a show on Santa Barbara. He wanted me to give Samantha Brown a standup paddle lesson. Needless to say, I was thrilled and not sure if it was one of my friends pulling a prank. They said they were sending out a guy from New York to check us out and see if we could do the job. Sure enough Toby from the channel shows up and we hit it off right away. He was super impressed after walking into our new BlueLine SUP retail store and knew right away we were the real deal and the right folks to do the show. They said they would be back in a couple of weeks. This morning at 8:00 AM sharp two vans full of film crew and Samantha Brown entered the store and spent about an hour filming the store and her asking me SUP questions. Then it was off to the beach for the real lesson. My friend then picked up the film crew on his boat and we did a paddle up to Ledbetter point and back. My wife, son and his best friend joined us. It was a perfect day and Samantha never fell off the board once. I think we have a new SUP fan. This show on the Travel Channel is shown around the world and viewed by millions and I can't thank the people at the channel enough. I will for sure let it be known when it airs. OUT.

OFF TO THE RACES
I'm out the door and heading down south for the Battle of the Paddle. Should be a fun event. It turns out this is a last minute decision since right after my last post I came down with the dreaded stomach flu. Normally I wouldn't even think about getting in my car right now but I don't want to miss this first time event. I'll take a ton of pics and post Monday. Hope to see you there. OUT

MONSTER SUP SPRAY ON DECK TRACTION
Jim Davis, owner of Monster Paint has hit the jack pot with his new and improved SUP deck traction. I spray it on the nose of all my boards. No need to run the deck pad all the way up. Jim will be at the Battle of the Paddle this weekend showing off his product on and off the boards. I will be there as well hanging out and checking out all the boards. I'm heading out tomorrow morning and will give full report and pics on Monday.
One more thing. I just got a call from a friend that had his Quickblade paddle ripped off at Campus Point the other day. If you see a carbon QB paddle being sold or know anything please call. He did leave it on the beach alone for about a half hour so maybe someone grabbed it and wants to give it back to the owner. Thanks.

DON'T WAKE UP JETHRO!!!
Be on the lookout for this large man they call Jethro. He has been spotted in surf shops and surf spots around California asking tons of questions about standup paddle surfing. We are not sure where he comes from but he speaks with a foreign tongue. Word on the street is that he rips on a paddle board by day and parties like a rock star by night. All I can tell you is this, if he walks into your store or paddles out into the lineup just be nice and answer his questions and please...........DON'T WAKE UP JETHRO!!!

WAYNE RICH 10'6" SUP ON THE WATER TODAY
I had the honor today of test surfing the first ever Wayne Rich production SUP board. It was straight out of the bubble wrap and still smelling of jet fuel. First of all, it is a beautiful board and very well made. Best of all, it surfs and paddles great!! I snagged a boatload of waves on it today and it really works. Damn good job Wayne!! I look forward to the next few models. These Wayne Rich SUP boards should be available in about a month. Local legends Jerry Shalhoob and Wayne Rich shown in pic above. Yes, Im the guy in the pic with the man boobs. That's what happens when you remodel a auto body shop and turn it into a SUP store. Many long night drinking beer and banging nails. OUT
