This is why we spend the big bucks to live in Santa Barbara. 70 plus outside and good surf. WarDog had his demo boards out today and a good time was had by all. Should be good tomorrow and Monday. SUP boarding is alive and well in SB.
Okay, sorry for stalking your blog! Did your son get a chance to try the 7'2 Kid SUP? Just curious. I have a 6 yr old and he wants to SUP so BAD. I've let him play with my Naish 11'6 in flat water, but need something else for the ocean (even if it's calm). Just because of his age, I may go for a soft surf board SUP while he learns. That way he will not kill himself and/or others while he is learning/playing. Anyway, will be watching if you do a kid SUP.
Oh, you are right, SB is a beautiful place! A few friends and I invaded it back in May '06. Wind didn't cooperate for windsurfing, but Wardog and crew certainly treated us right. Greatly appreciative for his hospitality. You guys have it good there!
Brewer: You're killing me with those SB photos! Brings back memories of my four year ('87 - '91) term as a stew at UCSB... ah the good old days- should've extended that four year holiday, er I mean education. And also cool to see how you guys are growing the SUP scene up there- nice job, carry on! Oh yeah, how about some SB wave riding video... all the bloggers are doing it now!
cb1-My son did try out the 7'2" "Kids" SUP board yesterday. It was super high tide so he really couldn't get into a wave. It did float him very well. The one thing he did say was that when he went for a wave the nose would sway from right to left. Thats not a good sign but he is also no expert on SUP design. I would go for the soft board for your son. Small kids really don't need a SUP board to stand up and SUP surf. It's a great idea for the family that has the big bucks to spend on their kids. I am going to take the design from my 10' BlueLine SUP and shrink it down to a 7' footer for my kid. I will go 26" wide and 3 1/2 inches thick. Those dimensions make way more sense for the groms. I will post my sons board when I am done and if you are the dad that spends the big bucks on your kid I would be more than happy to do one for you. Thanks for looking at my blog.
John-Funny you mention the videos. I am going down to a not so secret spot tomorrow with a friend that just bought one of those hand held waterproof video cameras. If we can figure out how to add music and put in on u-tube we will do it and add it to the blog. I have been super busy lately with my BlueLine boards and also working with Naish so my blog has taken a back seat. I really like reading yours every day. Have you seen the new SUP mag? It is really nice with great pics. WarDog has a couple copies. It's the real deal.

Hey Jim-
I don't know if you're editing on a mac but if you get stuck let me know I shoot with a Sanyo Xacti- pretty easy to use.
I can't wait to see the new mag- I've heard it looks REAL GOOD!
And, yes we do want to see the vids!
